But baby, don’t get it twisted
You was just another nigga on the hit list
Tryna fix your inner issues with a bad bitch
Didn’t they tell you that I was a savage?
Fuck ya white horse and ya carriage
Bet you never could imagine
Never told you you could have it
You needed me
Oooh, you needed me
To feel a little more, and give a little less
Know you hate to confess
But baby ooo, you needed me
From the excerpt of Rihanna’s latest single “Needed me” I’m reminded of the understanding that it takes for personal responsibility. Personal responsibility when it comes to ones owns knowledge of what determines what matters most. For me, I think about how so many people that I find inspiring talk about how they have a good team.
A team that is a funny thought to me. I know what is really meant is a support system, but I find it ironic that we often say, a team as if we were playing a sport. In a manner, we all are one called life. I often feel like a do not have a team but am reminded that I have one of the strongest. Leaning on both my family and in-laws, whom I have established one of the strongest relationships possible with, I know that no matter what they will always provide me with their candid insights and lessons. For me, this is invaluable as I strive to make major decisions regarding what to do for my family.
The EP Anti is one for me that speaks to owning your past and learning to reconcile this with the future. I am still struggling with this as I have continually separated my professional and personal goals. While this was a wise decision at first I am finding that it is wearing on me. There has to be a space where the two can co-exist as a mutual beneficial space. Anti meaning opposed to or against and it that capacity I am against running the same old rat race that I have been. There are many things that I am working on but I think the major one that you will see is the reconciliation of my professional and personal spaces into a singular passion.
So as always walk with me on this journey with a small sweater and some headphones.
