Defining the intersection between listening and living

A Weekend Visit

I hold myself to a high standard. I also believe that others should also hold themselves to a high standard, not necessarily mine but at least a standard. See is believing and from conversations and actions, I am often able to decipher the standard that the people I encounter hold themselves to. For me, this becomes difficult when I see the various inconsistencies between what is said and what is done. Don’t get me wrong there is a time that we are each troubled and struggle with internal moral dilemmas that we have to deal with, but for me, standards are what make these choices. We normally know what we will do once these are presented even if we think that there is an alternative there is an instinctual feeling that we understand what is best for us.

Take for instance, Justin Bieber’s song, “What do you mean?” for me it is exactly this feeling that troubles me in conversations. People are fickle while most individuals are steadfast in their instincts. This is why I find it funny to watch groups of people. It is by far one of my favorite past times. Critique, study and analyze the awareness of people and persons as they interact. This is especially insightful with people I consider close or that I have previous knowledge of as it gives me further insight into their standards. I made an assertion a while back about my future brother-in-law. Spending these few days having him and my sister-in-law visit I realized how much he cares for my daughter L. I also have had some time to talk to him and understand him more as a person, man, and a future husband to my sister-in-law. While I think that he could make better decisions I understand that in the end it was his mistake to make, own and move forward and as I see it he is making the best effort possible.

So over these past four days that I had visitors I gained personal insight as well as a better appreciation for my daughter’s aunt and uncle. So for the past assumptions and negative comments I have to apologize to her uncle, as a man, he is taking responsibility. I see his standards and understand his perspective. So what do I mean, I mean to spend more time understanding and learning through the music that guides my life.
So as always walk with me on this journey with a small sweater and some headphones.
