Defining the intersection between listening and living

Listener insight.

Dear Reader,

I’ve been sitting with a great deal of music lately from Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN!, Wale’s SHINE, Rick Ross’ Rather you than me and Gorillaz’s Humanz are new albums currently in my rotation. Each is a great body of work, that allows the listener insight into a multitude of different sensations. I say sensation because with my media consumption I am anticipating two things in the next week. The first is Logic’s album Everybody and Sense 8 season 2 on Netflix. My anticipation is because lately, I’ve been a very heavy creative mood. I not sure if you experience these periods like I do but sometimes my creativity just flows out of me. I am inspired by the simplest of things and can pull out a lot of things from being in that state.

Maybe it is because currently, I am in a very good place. My job is going exceptionally well. My wife’s birthday is Saturday, and all she asked for were some pearl earrings and to go to dinner theater. The last several weeks have been a bit of a blur but all in all, I have been finding simple joys in things. I transitioned myself to start focusing on a transformation. Transforming my style, my health and setting goals. Yeah setting goals but smart goals. Goals that I can be successful in. The current music that is in the rotation is a part of that. Sitting with these from a couple of hours to a couple of days I think I have a good sense of the direction and inspiration. I haven’t totally digested them but my process for music is after serval listens throughs I start mixing in a rotation with a playlist. I balance music genres and sounds with thoughts and feeling to give context. Given my current selection, I created a playlist with these and added some Hozer, Adele, Sade, Frank Ocean, Wynton Marsalis, and Gnash. I’m locked in now.

I have a lot of things in the air. I will fill you in more on the transformation and some of the goals but I wanted to keep this light. I am spending most of my time with my wife and in-laws with this being a birthday weekend so look forward to more.

As always,
